Passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to San Diego arrived more than an hour late Thursday after an unusual traveler—a humanoid robot named Bebop—prompted a runway delay. The 70-pound robot, created by Elite Event Robotics, was traveling for work and caused safety concerns before departure. Passengers questioned its lithium battery size, and security checks ensued. Southwest Airlines stated Bebop's battery exceeded the airline's maximum allowable size, leading to its confiscation and the delay. Elite Event Robotics is now working to recover the battery for future appearances. The delay ended, and the flight continued.
